This week, I worked at 5:30 p.m. on Monday night so that I could attend the filming of Call the Doctor. We filmed two episodes – one about robotic surgery and one about vision, during which 3 doctors from each area were guests to speak about their specific medical field. The first shoot was at 6:30, so I worked on promos for the shows until then. For the first shoot, I simply observed in the studio, watching the camera work and floor managing. For the second shoot however, I worked in the control room with Neil to do audio.
We sat at the huge audio board, but as there were only 4 guests, I only had to monitor four different microphones inputs and levels. This was relatively simple, just making sure the levels didn’t get too far above equilibrium. It was only stressful when everyone would start talking at once or start laughing, because then the levels shot up and I had to simultaneously turn everyone down at the correct level to even it out. Other than that, I had a lot of fun getting to see how a show is filmed and edited in real time!
At the end of both shoots, I worked as a grip and helped tear down the set with the rest of the crew. I helped carry tables, wrap up microphones and cords and put them away, and put sandbags on the walls to keep them from tipping.
The rest of the week, I worked on finishing my promos for the October shows and began my November ones.
