Week 8 at VIA

This week I nearly finished my sizzle reel for the Challenger Game. Without branding and effects, it is at 2 minutes right now. I began with the music as the baseline because I had to use the same music VIA used when they live recorded & edited the show, as some of the quotes I needed were already overlaid with the music, thus couldn’t be separated into just dialogue audio. I had to chop up the music because it was only a minute long, and I wanted a majority of the sizzle to be the slow beginning (as you can see in the beginning, the green audio blocks repeat).

I decided to script the video so that it began by introducing (through quotes by the announcers) basically the essence of the Challenger Game – what it is. After that, I broke into more personal footage of the players and used voice over quotes from announcers, coaches, parents and players to give it a more emotional feel. I cut an introduction of the teams from the original live show and placed “we’re about ready to play some baseball” right before the music changes to upbeat. The final part of the sizzle shows action shots of players hitting the ball, and wraps back up with the announcer again reiterating that “This is the Challenger Game,” with B-roll of feel-good moments.

I typed up the script with time codes. I also started experimenting with video transitions (like a zoom when it switches frames at the same time the music changes), but I’ll get more into that next week, and also will get the last few narrations I need recorded by someone from FM hopefully!
